Data centre operator Data Exchange Networks has appointed Matthew Madden as its new CEO following the departure of Peter Christie.

Madden joins the ASX-listed company from Kordia Solutions, where he was the head of sales and marketing for Australia and New Zealand for the past two years.

Prior to joining Kordia, he held executive positions including GM of corporate and enterprise markets at Nextgen Group, where he made “significant sales” into the Metronode data centres for corporate, enterprise and reseller channels, the company said.

He was also the managing director at Infoplex for three years. According to executive chairman Douglas Loh, the Perth-based operator conducted an “extensive search” for a new CEO after Christie left for personal reasons in February.

“Matthew is a highly experienced data centre and telecommunications executive, with a solid track record of building and leading high performing teams, as well as a strategic focus on world-class customer care,” Loh said.

“His skills and capabilities in this area are exactly what DXN needs to best leverage the opportunity presented by the data centre services market in both Australia and the Asia Pacific region.”

Christie’s departure coincided with DXN’s announcement that completion of its $7.5 million Sydney data colocation centre was delayed by six months, and a second centre earmarked for Port Melbourne would be delayed by a year.

To oversee the two new data centres, DXN appointed Simon Forth as chief operating officer, and Jitender Beniwal as data centre operations manager at the end of last year.

Forth was subsequently named interim co-CEO alongside Richard Whiting, DXN's CCO, following Christie’s exit. Beniwal meanwhile has moved on to serve as a data centre manager for Oracle, according to his LinkedIn.
