Sophos has acquired security start-up Avid Secure, taking control of the emerging provider to boost public cloud offerings.
Founded in 2017, the San Francisco-based business specialises in next-generation cloud infrastructure, with artificial intelligence expertise across analytics, compliance and DevSecOps.
Specifically, the start-up offers ‘end-to-end protection’ in public cloud services across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
“The accelerated adoption of public cloud environments is presenting new data security challenges to organisations,” said Dan Schiappa, senior vice president and general manager of products at Sophos.
“With the cloud workload protection and the cloud security posture management software from Avid Secure, Sophos will expand its current capabilities in cloud security and drive leadership in this growing space.”
From a technology perspective, Avid Secure partners with AWS, SentinelOne and Splunk, in addition to HashiCorp and Allgress.
Furthermore, the business has integration agreements in place with Microsoft Azure, Slack and Okta, spanning cloud security monitoring, governance, risk and compliance and DevSecOps processes.

With the acquisition effective immediately, Avid Secure also has engineering operations in Gurgaon, India.
