Cyber security vendor Cylance has held its first Asia Pacific partner awards since its acquisition by BlackBerry last November.

The vendor - now known as BlackBerry Cylance following the US$1.4 billion deal - celebrated channel success in six categories during its APAC Partner Forum in Thailand.

Telstra-owned VMtech was among the local winners, taking home the award of Australia and New Zealand Partner of the Year, as Arrow ECS A/NZ won the distributor gong.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Katana1 scooped the honour as Emerging Partner of the Year, as Melbourne-based Cyber Risk walked away with the Strategic Customer Win award.

New Zealand's Advantage also ended the event on a high note after being named as Rookie Partner of the Year.

“Our key objectives for this year’s APAC Partner Forum were to thank our valued partners for their contribution in our development over the past 12 months and to understand how to engage better with them,” said BlackBerry Cylance’s APAC director of channels, Joe McPhillips.

“We also wanted to increase their profitability through extending their offerings to include additional opportunity in services.”

BlackBerry was the maker of smartphones until 2016 when it ceased to design the handsets in favour of licensing partner TCL Communications and focused on the development of software to manage mobile devices. In 2018, it bought privately-owned Cylance as it continues its shift into the software and security spaces.

At the time of the acquisition, it was reported Cylance has more than 3,500 active enterprise customers.
