Brocade delivers Avnet’s self-service Cloud

Distributor automates Australian datacentres to allow reseller self-provisioning

Avnet Technology Solutions has deployed a Brocade-based network infrastructure inside its datacentres in its mission to provide self-service Cloud computing resources to Australian resellers.

The infrastructure is built on Brocade’s VDX switches and VCS Fabric technology, supported by an Ethernet fabric which, as a single large domain, will provide: 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) server access ports operating at wire speed with low port-to-port latency; self-configuration and self-management capabilities; support for the VXLAN and NVGRE software-defined networking (SDN) protocols.

Avnet Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) vice-president and general manager, Darren Adams, said that fully automating the two datacentres will allow resellers to generate revenue streams based on virtualised technology by self-provisioning virtual machine capabilities.

Avnet partners will therefore be able to lower the cost of offering Cloud solutions, and consequently lead to greater return on networking investment, according to Adams.

“Brocade has really come through for us both in terms of technology and support,” he said. “Its SDN roadmap is very strong, which gives us a great deal of confidence about supporting both VMware and Microsoft virtualisation stacks across the same infrastructure, and being able to leverage SDN service-chaining for network security.”
